Obviously many of us view what would be considered Jumping the Shark differnetly.  So I'm curious to know what people think that would be.  Give hypathetical Lost scenereos or actual Sharking Jumping moments in TV history.

Where the phrase came from of course - The Fonze jumping the shark on happy days.

Dallas - Bobby Ewing stepping out of the shower and the audience finding out that the entire season was just a dream.

Rosanne - The Conners winning the lottery and then finding out that was a dream.

Sawyer finding a wave runner and building a ramp out of the raft debris to jump the Dharma shark. LOL

I think it would be anything that takes the current status of the show as we the viewer perceives it and changes it to an entirely different direction. To me that could mean:

1. Jacob is a supernatural entity or spirit which cannot be scientifically explained with science as we know and trust it;

2. They are in purgatory

3. There is an alternate reality/parallel universe at work; or

4. This is all a big dream of Hurley's and he is in the mental institution imagining these people.

Of interest is #4 for those of you familiar with Buffy. In the 6th season, Buffy was injected with some drug that made her hallucinate reality and believe she was actually confined to a mental institution and had made up the entire Sunnydale world of vampires and demons.

The way the episode ended made you wonder (and still makes me wonder) if the entire show IS in her head versus her reality. If you saw it you know what I mean.

I agree all with Pen & I think already the show creators did say its not purgatory & not in a dream... right? or did they not say that & I am wrong?

Much as I enjoy all the characters even the ones which I enjoy because they make me dislike them, I think its good that some must die. It makes the show more real & you feel it more deep than if its flat & predictable everybody stay alive. If they did not die I think we will not like it as much & the show would suffer. Death is very real & important part of the show for the characters in their life & for the mythology behind them also.
