It seems to me that Nikki and Paulo made very little effort to interact with the other Losties. Which I think might be the reason why Sawyer kept making those "who are you" comments to Nikki. Instead of his usual nicknames, he continued to ask her who she was, because it seems Nikki and Paulo went out of their way not to get close with everyone else. Maybe they were too busy looking for their precious diamonds? In "Exposé" they did talk a bit with Arzt and Ethan, in fact Arzt seems to be the one they were closest with seeing as they "inherited" his bugs after his unfortunate dynamite-incident.

And it doesn`t seem like Paulo mentioned to anyone that he found a hatch (eh, guess what? I found a hatch with tv screens, electricity and everything in the middle of the jungle??). And it seems they didn`t know much about what was going on with the Others. I mean, if they had known everything that had happened he would have told about seeing the Others in the hatch (and the walkie...), even if it meant having to find another place for his diamonds. Even if he didn`t care what happened to everyone else, he would do it to ensure his and Nikki`s safety.

I think this could be a reason why N&P seems so out of touch with what is going on with the rest of the Losties, as well as Sawyer claiming to not recognize Nikki.

What is more bizarre about their interactions is that they seemingly had no idea (or did not care) that Ethan kidnapped Claire. If you don't buy that Claire's kidnapping was "erased" post-purple sky, then their trust in Ethan seems odd.

Like I said in another thread, and relates to this too, I think their trust in Ethan (and it's not necessarily even trust, could just be the first name that came to Paulo's head), just shows the lack of interaction they had with everyone else. They were way too concerned with themselves.

I suppose part of the awkwardness with their interactions just comes from TPTB trying to write them in after the fact.  In Expose they were portrayed  as interacting with others only occasionally and when it suited them most, so why was Nikki all kinds of huggy with Kate when she and Sawyer returned from Otherville?  Something isn't jiving at all.

ETA and besides that - if everyone was such big Expose fans, how come they didn't recognize Nikki?  (yeah, yeah her epi's hadn't aired yet or some such nonsense, right?)
