I'm not so sure. I posted this in the episode thread too, that the "why" of burying these two alive just doesn't sit well for me.

Something larger has to be at work in the minds of TPTB for taking the show this direction.

I think they're done.

I think it was a failed experiment to shoehorn two new chars in and TPTB, listening to their millions of critics, wrote a wonderfully cruel death for them to the amusement of all LOST fans.

The Sawyer, "who ARE you" comments are shout-outs to the fans. When P&N first come on the show, they're accepted by the Losties. Altho they don't know them personally, they've seen them in the crowd. It's only many episodes later, when they turn into punchlines for Sawyer --and I think this was a key indicator of a shift of thinking by TPTB.

Why not tell the Losties of the Pearl and the walkie? I'll tell you what I think. It's because they were originally meant for a diff plotline at the time.

The episode where N & P go to the Pearl with the others, nothing was mentioned about "oh yeah, we've been here. der".

I think the Paolo bathroom scene was a joke and an indicator to P's character at the time of that eppy shooting, not a pre-planned attempt to get the diamonds back. I think they back-wrote a reason for him to go into the bathroom, and since N&P have had virtually no facetime, this new scene fit well into an impromptu N&P death eppy.

As well the walkie. Having Paolo own an Other walkie was a nice little dramatic "extra" for TPTB to sell ads for this eppy being something other than what it really was.

We've seen TPTB change character arcs before. Ana L. and Eko, for instance. I think the only diff is that TPTB "fired" N&P for their own creative reasons and not cuz an actor wanted to leave the show or did some heinous acts.

So anyway, for me? Out of sight, out of mind. Until we get a Jump-the-Shark, "Hi guys, yeah we didn't really die" episode, I'm not gonna waste any brain power formulating a master plan or theory for why two lame-ass characters got killed off that really never should've been there in the first place.

Here's a thought to torture to you all

Nikki reminds us that its after Thanksgiving in "Expose" when she says that they missed it. We're in December on the island right now when they are buried.

In the real world 2004 - on December 26, 2004 a Tsunami suddenly struck the south pacific, which presumably would impact this island of the Losties.

"Nothing stays buried on this island" -- high tide season + tsumani = unearthed bodies.

I am wondering if they are going to incorporate the tsunami in the show - I just think they will have a bit of difficulty using a disaster which killed around 300,000 people in an entertainment show... but you never know.

They made a reference to the Iraq war, the Red Sox, and I think 9/11 at one point so it would not be so surprising if suddenly the weather becomes fierce on the show for the next few weeks. They wouldn't need to say "ooh a tsunami" just make the weather reflect how it would have been in 2004.

Now clearly, this event was not known when the show began. But it would be cool to see the show adjust the weather to incorporate it. Of course, this would have an implication on "time" on the island since there are theories time is moving differently there (i'm not even going to go into those other theories LOL)

yeah that would make sense, if they at least reflected it somehow.

If they`re going to have the actual tsunami hit them though, that would probably affect everyone on the beach quite a lot, and possibly killing several of them I guess.

But I suppose it could help explain how the Black Rock ended up so far inland a long time ago, with another tsunami.

There was some mention of how the currents and the waves were acting strange around the island, wasn`t it? And Desmond only sailed in circles. maybe whatever it is that "hides" the island, or the strong magnetic anamoly will play into the effect the tsunami would have on the island?

Not to quibble, but the 2004 tsunami was in the Indian Ocean.  Flight 815 would have been traveling east from Australia towards LA and gone down in the South Pacific, which as far as I know, had no consequences related to the tsunami

That is a good point WOC - I just thought some of the islands in the pacific was hit too, but I`m probably remembering that wrong LOL.

I thought Japan got hit which was why I said that.

After some further research, you may be right, Pen.  The west coast of Australia was hit and had minor damage.  People swimming offshore were swept out 150 feet and then swept back in unharmed.  I don't know what kind of effects it would have at a distance beyond Australia, but it seems to be possible that there would be some effects, maybe even washing up Pikki, Boone, Shannon, the marshall, Ana Lucia, and Eko, and of course, Steve/Scott.  Ethan wasn't buried at the beach, right?
