As we see more interactions of Nikki and Paolo, it seems he is very protective or controlling of her, or both. Is there something beyond just some self-centered couple?

Ralf - I am just so baffled by them. TPTB made such a hype they would integrate into the Losties, yet their actions seem out of placed, forced, and in this last episode, just plain weird.

Maybe, there is something to learn about them. Not sure if I want to though....but it seems as if Paulo was a bit panicked with the thought of Nikki heading off into the jungle.

I agree, Paolo seems to be very controlling of her - with the tugging of her belt-loop in the last episode for example. Like he was worried she would volunteer again to go on Hurley`s "mission".

Maybe we will find out they`re actually moles from the Others, and Paolo is the one in charge?
(hopefully right before Hurley accidently hits them with the VW bus )

I cannot credit this theory, but Hidden James, a poster at the 'Lage, made this observation about these two idiots in a thread where people where complaining about these two idiots and their insertion onto the show this season.

I think it's pretty obvious that the exact things that fans hate about Pikki are being highlighted by the writers. Their coming out of nowhere, especially. There must be a reason for all this, but I can't guess what right now.

'Buffy' did this in its last season with a new major character (Buffy's sister) who everybody remembered as being there all along. It turned out to be a trick, with implanted memories, and very important to the larger plot.

If you didn't watch Buffy - Buffy's sister Dawn suddenly appeared in the first episode of Season 5. Loyal fans go "Wtf?!" who the hell is she? Well we find out that she is a special energy, sent to be protected by Buffy, in the form of a sister. It was a huge story arc that lasted the entire season. Everyone's memory was affected and they "remembered" Dawn's presence before she actually arrived in their lives through memory implantation.

Hidden James and other posters at the 'Lage are now positing - what if the hatch implosion is the cause of these two's existence on the island now, with the Losties? It would certainly help explain why they seem "forced" into the mainstream. It also makes Sawyer's comment that he doesn't know Nikki less of a joke, and more of a CLUE. As he was not near the implosion as the rest of them were, maybe his memory doesn't have her in it like it should.

As I know that Buffy was an influence and appreciation of TPTB, this is not a strech to think something similiar could be happening here. At least, it would explain why they seem so awkward to not just us, but the Losties even.

I`m not sure, but there could very well turn out that there was something like that at play here. Or the brainwashing possibility you mentioned. But would this make them a part of the Others?

Or maybe their not the Others, but the other-others? Could that be why Paolo seems so reluctant to go into the jungle or let Nikki go into the jungle - he`s afraid they will blow their covers?

I did think the belt loop tug seemed to imply Paolo is very possessive. He almosts acts like Jin used to with Sun before she told him how it was gonna be (yeah girl power LOL).  

I was thinking about a comment Pen made in the Nikki thread, in relation to the "Buffy theory". When Kate returned to camp, Nikki ran up to her and seemed happy to see her. And as far as I can remember there was no indication that Kate didn`t recognize her?

I just rewatched this the other day after I posted the Buffy theory. She hugs her back, but there is really no way to tell whether she recognized her or not. If you recall, Kate was distracted at this point about wanting to go find Danielle. She walked into camp in a daze.

If my theory is anywhere near where they are taking us with N & P, presumably everyone would remember these two as part of the crowd. The Sawyer comment could be just a shout out to the viewers who hate N&P, or it could have been a hint that there is something off with these two that the Losties have yet to discover/remember.

Well, wasn't it said by TPTB that they were part of the front section of the plane? Maybe they didn't join in with the Losties until recently.. like when Saywer and Kate were gone?

That was a rumor actually, if I recall, from one of the Jay and Jack podcasts.  I don't think it's ever been confirmed, although it *could* be true I suppose...

Well, this isn't the first time TPTB shoved a new person on us. Anyone remember Arzt??? He was only in 3 episodes, and died in one of them LOL  There were 40-some survivors, so they have plenty of people we haven't met before. It's just Nikki and Paolo's personalities, they suck lol

I liked Arzt though! LOL.

Arzt was awesome!!! And he had one of the best death scenes....EVER!!!

I agree Rara, and Hurley`s line "Dude, you got a piece of Arzt on you"...

Moving this over to RGD since they are (presumably) dead.

At least they are one island-day (maybe even two) deader than they were last week, LOL

they should definitely have suffocated by now - you would think someone else would have noticed if they had dug themselves out already LOL
