I was thinking about the mysterious "him", when we were talking about Jack`s dad...

So who do you guys think he is? And is he the same "him" Fenry talks about as the "him" Kelvin/Desmond mentions? Or is this two different persons?

In Live Together, Die Alone:

[Shot of Desmond on the sailboat in a storm, he goes below and wraps his Dickens book in plastic, and then is knocked out and washes ashore where Kelvin finds him and drags him to the bunker]
Kelvin Are you him?
Desmond What?
Kelvin What did one snowman say to the other?

And in Adrift:

Desmond Are you...are you him?
Locke Yes. Yes I am.
Desmond I can't believe it. You're finally here.
Locke Well here I am.
Desmond Who's she?
Locke She's with me.
Desmond What did one snowman say to the other snowman?
Locke I don't know what you're talking about.

Do you think Desmond knows who he is asking for? Or is he just taking the clue from Kelvin? Since Kelvin also asked the snowman-question, which seems like a password, neither of them seems to know what "he" looks like.

In Dave Fenry then starts talking about a "he" too:

A.K.A. Henry Gale If I told you about them... you have no idea what he'll do.
Sayid He?
Ana-Lucia You mean their leader... the guy with the beard.
A.K.A. Henry Gale Him? He's no one. Nothing.
Sayid Where are your people?
A.K.A. Henry Gale I can't...
Sayid How many of you are there?!
A.K.A. Henry Gale You don't understand.
....
A.K.A. Henry Gale He'll kill me!

And in Two for the road:

A.K.A. Henry Gale None of this matters, I'm dead anyway. Doctor's gone to make a trade and we both know hell come back empty handed and then I've lost my value. So either Jack comes back and kills me or my people find out where I'm being held and they do it.
Locke Why would your own people want to kill you?
A.K.A. Henry Gale Because the man in charge... he's a great man, John... a brilliant man... but he is not a forgiving man. He'll kill me because I failed, John. I failed my mission.

Fenry does seem to know the man he`s talking about, unless he`s just lying again of course. Do you think the man Fenry is talking about is already on the island? Unless Fenry is just talking about himself in 3rd person...

Interesting points Rain.

I do not think Desmond is referring to the same him as Fenry. I think Desmond was using the word 'him' as a replacement for the button pushing.  I think Desmond was not enlightened by Kelvin on "HIM" but I do suspect Kelvin knew who he was.

Its clear that Fenry is NOT him. Unless he is lying. Oh that Fenry, I never know what to believe!

I agree that Desmond was simply looking for his replacement.

As for Fenry, well I find it hard to trust anything he says. I think a lot of what he said to Locke and Ana-Lucia was what he thought would help his situation the most.

He appeared to be running things at the dock, but that doesn't mean that there isn't someone higher up he has to answer to. I'm hoping that we might get a definitive answer to who "Him" is during season 3.

Yeah, I also think Desmond was just hoping it was his replacement, or someone in charge.
Maybe the "him" Kelvin was referring could be Charles Widmore or DeGroot? Someone in charge of the whole thing?

I guess if the Others were left-over Dharma personell (although didn`t Kelvin refer to them as "hostiles"?), they could be talking about the same man...

And lol at "Oh that Fenry, I never know what to believe!"

There was one other place where the mysterious "him" was mentioned.
In "Maternity Leave" the following dialogue takes place:

VOICE [from outside the room]: Ethan.
ETHAN: Wait here, I'll be right back.
CLAIRE: Okay.
VOICE: What the hell happened? You were supposed to make the list and then bring her in. Was I unclear?
ETHAN: It's not my fault. They knew I wasn't on the plane. They had a manifest.
[The voice is revealed as Zeke, without his beard and grubby clothes.]
ZEKE: What am I supposed to tell him? You know what he's going to do when he finds out. Damn it, Ethan.
[Zeke notices Claire listening and closes the door.]

After seeing the finale and the premiere, we've been led to believe that Benry is "him".  But that does not eliminate the possibility that Benry reports to someone "higher" in the organization that may not be on the island. If Jack's dossier is indeed filled with real information, the others' must have contact with the outside world.

I think someone is higher than Benry, but in that scene between Tom and Ethan (that WOC posted), 'him' seems to be referring to Benry since in last week's episode we saw him tell Goodwin and Ethan to get lists.

my thoughts are that Benry is "him", the top man, the big cheese, the head kahuna. I feel that he calls all the shots, he believe that he has people out in the real world (the reason for Jack's file), but all in all he calls the shots. When he was captured by the losties, his refernces to him was just to throw them off. If they knew he was the leader, they would have treated him different. Then again I might be wrong about all this

Maybe there *were* people above Benry, but since things seem to have been abandoned a bit, he is now in charge of what's left?

I just don't see it, HIM would have been involved for quite a long time and can't see him the leader of something this involved, while working side by side with Jack for years. Granted, I think there is something more to his story, but the leader? no

I'm with you, gb. While I can see the possibility of Christian having some sort of ties to it all, I can't see him in a position of such power.

I think so too GB. I think there is a lot more to Christian that we have seen, but I don`t think he`s him. He seems too unstabile and doesn`t seem to have that kind of power.

I think Henry-Fenry-Benry (it`s like a nursery rhyme lol) is in charge over the others and on the island, but I still think there is a possibility there could be someone else in charge off the island.

Till the end of TLE, I used to think HIM was Mittelwerk. I know Ben is not to be trusted with anything he says, but what he described about HIM fitted my perception about Mittelwerk. But at the end of TLE, we learned that Mittelwerk doesn't know the location of the island.
Now, if Ben is not deceiving Mittelwerk about the location of the island, Mittelwerk's chances of being HIM are slim.
Well, this was my post about who HIM can't be. I'll post again if my brain comes up with an idea

If Mittelwerk doesn't know the location of the island then that leaves a conumdrum.  They're stillmaking food drops to the Dharma side of the island with Dharma brand food items...so is this something Alvar has managed to keep from Mittelwerk?  Poor Alvar, he buys a new washer and dryer and Mittelwerk puts him under house arrest.

Juliet What is that?
Richard Alpert That is orange juice...with a considerable amount of Dharma Calms Forte mixed in.
Juliet You want me to drink it?
