Yeah, I wouldn`t be surprised either if Hurley turns out to be of more importance than we think.

Especially since he knew of the numbers -- profited and cursed from them. No one else knew of the numbers. I feel as if there HAD been a plan for Hurley, but after the purple sky the Others changed that plan as they were worried about what the Losties were up to.
