This is just speculation, but according to Lostpedia:

  • Episode 20 is speculated to be a Tom-centric episode.

Wouldn`t that be so cool?

  • 03/23 - Looks like episode #320 is 'hippie-centric' with a flashback to the '70's. Features Horace, a scientist/mathematician and Olivia an attractive elementary school teacher. Both embody a 'hippie' idealism. Olivia may show up later in other episodes. Source: secretagentman @ TWoP

Age wise for Tom, a flashback in the 70's may make sense.

oh yes it does. And if Tom was recruited by Dharma or something, Karen DeGroot looked a bit hippie-ish didn`t she?

I'm not sure about any confirmation, but Spoilerfix has this listed for this episode -

The Man Behind the Curtain (Dharma-centric)

Dharma-centric sounds cool - does this mean Tom was part of Dharma?

Tom always seemed to be a former Dharma employee. He has intimate knowledge of all the hatches, knows about the polar bears and fish bisquits. Maybe one of Ben's first "acquisitions".

Juliet What is that?
Richard Alpert That is orange juice...with a considerable amount of Dharma Calms Forte mixed in.
Juliet You want me to drink it?

Yes I agree Ralf, but there`s been a lot of speculation that the Others was not a part of Dharma. It would be nice to have it confirmed LOL

  • Just when you think you knew it all about DHARMA, prepare for an information overload in episode 20, which will be airing May 9th. The so far untitled episode will go way back to the 70’s and will, if rumors are true, explain a lot about the first interaction between the DHARMA folks and the indigenous island people who we have come to know as ‘The Others’. Amongst the characters will be a younger Dr. Marvin Candle, the mysterious DeGroots, and a staunch by-the-numbers Hanso representative who may have a secret agenda. There is no information as to whether the entire episode takes place in the past, or, if it doesn’t, how it will interface with the present events on the Island.Source: BuddyTV

  • UPDATE: 25th March - The Character names in the casting call are fake to hide their real identities which would reveal too much. Horace and Olivia possibly pose for the DeGroots.Source: Secretagentman

  • Producers are currently casting for a "Roger," a working-class janitor in his early forties who is bitter about his place in life but has higher aspirations. The notice says of the character, "He has troubled and complex relationship with his son; he finds himself caught up in a mysterious situation beyond his imaginings; and the actor must not be claustrophobic." • Essentially what is being said is that the DeGroot flashback is not a 'Dharma' flashback and that it in fact adds more murk to the Dharma mystery by suggesting that Dharma's inception was inspired by knowledge of the island.   Am I saying that correctly?  Probably not.  Let me try again.

  • The DeGroot flashback (whose island present day story connects to the DeGroots?) will take place either before Dharma is thought of, or at the very beginning of it and will involve a character that we associate with the Dharma mythology in a heavily symbolic way who happens to have a little knowledge of this places special properties.  So the question of, did Dharma know what they were getting into when they selected mystery island as their base of operations will be a yes.

From DarkUFO:

I've just been speaking to my new contact who is under very strict privacy regulations and as a result I'll only post publicly what he has allowed me to, which I'm very grateful for. And NO I will not give details out privately to ANYONE so please don't email asking me. Anyway back to what I can reveal.

Note: I've seen the photos so this is 100% legit.

1. Someone you wouldn't expect to see wearing a Dharma suit will apear in episode 20

2. There will be a big, epic, shocking scene

3. We will see more Dharma vans.

4. Roger wasn't the only workman.

ooo that would be cool!  There is also that pic in the Jin/Sun episode thread with Sun being behind Juliet when she opens a door. That kinda tripped me out.

The past of the island is explored including how Dharma came to be there, why, and what the fateful 'purge' was really all about. Flashbacks will show Ben through various ages up until adulthood. The mysterious 'Jacob' will finally be revealed, and the question of whether any Dharma members still live will be revealed. Source: BuddyTV
