First appears seen on a surveillance monitor in "The Cost of Living", later Sayid, Kate and Locke meets him in The Flame in "Enter 77".



Bakunin said that he grew up in Kiev and joined the Soviet Army. He served at some point as a soldier in Afghanistan and is familar with field medical treatment. He also mentions being stationed at a military listening post in Vladivostok. Bakunin said that he performed years of unpleasant actions in the service of the Soviet Union. In the early 1990s, his military unit was decommissioned and he was released from the Soviet Army. Replying to a newspaper advertisement titled "would you like to save the world", he eventually ended up through events as yet unrevealed arriving by submarine on the island around eleven years (circa 1993) before he told his story to Sayid. He originally claimed to have been a DHARMA Initiative member, but later recanted, saying he had never been in DHARMA, but that the rest of his story was true.

Unanswered questions about Mikhail per Lostpedia:

What is Mikhail's document about?
When did he arrive on the island in relation to the events of the purge?
Did the glass eye found at the Arrow belong to Mikhail?
What happened to his right eye?
Which parts of his story were true?
Why, when he is so talkative and provocative, does he say nothing to Rousseau?
Did he have a past connection with Locke ?

His right eye is in the Staff hatch I bet.

What I want to know is why Ben was so freaked he'd shoot when the approached the Flame. Did he partially tell the truth that he is a Dharma leftover? So not a pure "Other"?

He could just be a paranoid whack job.

I got the feeling Ben wasn`t really afraid Mikhail would shot HIM, but that he would be inclined to shoot anyone who approached. Possibly without asking first. It seemed to be fine as long as they identified themselves.
Maybe they still have enemies on the island, or Mikhail is paranoid like Ralf said.

Or Ben and Mikhail didn't really get along and Mikhail was a reluctant associate of the Others group - being that he was former Dharma.

Nah. After him and Sayid were talking when they left the Flame, didn't he say everything he said was true except for that he was a Dharma employee?

He talked of the "magnificent man" that brought them there, much to the same way they talk about Jacob.

Plus, I didn't really sense any tension between them when they were talking inside the Flame. Ben and Mikhail that, is. I agree with Rain... I think there's something/one still on the island that is a potential threat to them.
