Richard Alpert is a recruiter from Mittelos Bioscience, and first appears when he tries to recruit Juliet together with Ethan in "Not in Portland" in S3.

ETA: He later appears in The Man From Tallahasse and is ON the island, as an Other.

Per Lostpedia:

Real-life Dr. Richard Alpert (a.k.a. Ram Dass) is a noted psychologist and Hindu spiritualist. In 1963 he was dismissed from Harvard University for his research (in collaboration with Timothy Leary, Aldous Huxley, Allen Ginsberg and others) into psilocybin, LSD-25, and other psychedelic chemicals. Later he traveled to India where he was given his Hindu spiritual name "Ram Dass" which translates as "Servant of God".

I wonder why Richard seems to be one of the few that are allowed to leave, and return, to the island. Does this mean he has some high position in the hierarchy of the Others?

And does he spend more time on the island or in the "real world"?

Servant of God eh? Another religious reference to the island. He is servant to Jacob -- biblical name too. I guess we can rule him out as Jacob -- since his name denotes "servant".

Crap, crap, crap, crap, crap!

Did you all know that Nestor Carbonell is starring in a new show picked up on the CBS fall schedule?

Quote :

[05.14.07 - 02:24 PM]
CBS PICKS UP 'BANG,' 'POWER' PLUS FOUR DRAMAS
Four dramas ("Cane A.K.A. Los Duques," "Moonlight A.K.A. Twilight," "Swingtown," "Viva Laughlin"), a comedy ("The Big Bang Theory") and a game show ("The Power of 10") were among CBS' first wave of series pick-ups at the start of upfront week on Monday.

Quote :

DEscrïptION:
(from CBS' press release) CANE stars Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Jimmy Smits ("The West Wing") in an epic drama about the external rivalries and internal power struggles of a large Cuban-American family running an immensely successful rum and sugar business in South Florida. When the family patriarch, Pancho (Hector Elizondo, "Chicago Hope"), is offered a lucrative but questionable deal by his bitter adversary, the Samuels, to purchase thousands of acres of sugar fields, he's faced with a tough choice: Should he cash out of the sugar business and focus solely on rum, which would please his impulsive natural son, Frank (Nestor Carbonell, "Lost"), or protect the family legacy that he built from the ground up by not selling, and side with his adopted son, Alex (Smits), who mistrusts the Samuels and still sees value in sugar. Alex and Frank's approach to business is as different as their approach to life. While Frank might lose focus chasing women, Alex is deeply in love with his beautiful wife, Isabel (Paola Turbay, "Bailando por un Sueo"), who is also Pancho's daughter. Married when she was just 17 years old, Isabel balances Alex by choosing not to involve herself in the business, focusing instead on their three children, who are determined to forge their own paths outside the family. For the Duques, will family allegiance come first or will their secrets and acrimonious conflicts over love, lust and control of the family fortune be their downfall? Eddie Matos ("General Hospital"), Rita Moreno ("West Side Story"), Michael Trevino ("The Riches"), Lina Esco ("CSI: NY"), Sam Carman ("Bones"), Alona Tal ("Veronica Mars") and Polly Walker ("Rome") also star. Cynthia Cidre ("The Mambo Kings"), Jonathan Prince ("American Dreams"), Jimmy Iovine ("8 Mile") and Polly Anthony

Does this mean no more Richard? A re-cast role?

Not necessarily --- because with Lost not starting filming til the fall of 2007 due to it airing in  Feb 2007, he could manage a deal to work his schedule around both shows. And while its picked up by CBS, there is no guarantee it will make it an entire season. His role doesn't sound like the star at least of the show.....

Richard is not in every episode so it may be easy for him to work that out. If we spend next season learning about the roots of the island as I am hoping - he'll have a central role so I think he'd be nuts to walk away from LOST for a pilot that may not take.

(Plus, the show sounds dumb LOLOL)

I think I already heard something about this show, so they seem to be getting some press already.

Would CBS let him work on a show for another network at the same time?

I don`t like the sound of this, so I really hope Pen is right LOL.

Perhaps raw sugar cane is really the fountain of youth, and it grow best in tropical climates with freshly crushed rocks in the soil? But maybe not.
