Ethan is a mysterious islander who integrates himself into the group of middle section survivors, hunting with Locke and participating in Hurley's census (Hurley briefly mistook him for Lance). He abducts Claire and Charlie, hanging Charlie in a tree.

Ethan drugs Claire and pretends to be her doctor.  He injects some medication in her abdomen, claiming that it is "vaccine for the baby".  He is working with the Others and is chastised by Tom for not having completed the List prior to bringing back Claire (Ethan blames this on their having found the manifest, and "outing" him).  Ethan pretends to be helping Claire and shows her around the Staff Station, including the nursery, where there is a crib and plane mobile already set up.  He spends time with her alone, and tells her that she should trust them with the baby because they "are a good family," but that she will have to "go away" afterwards because there isn't enough vaccine for both her and the baby.

After Claire escapes, Ethan shows up at camp again and threatens Charlie, telling him he will kill one of the survivors every day until Claire is returned. The next day, Scott is found dead and the survivors band together to go after Ethan. When they capture him, Charlie shoots Ethan several times, killing him dead.

It appears Ethan is to the middle section group what Goodwin was to the tail group, but it is still unclear what affiliation Ethan and Goodwin have to one another or where they fall in the heirarchy of the Others.

Vincent's latest podcast brought this question to my mind:

Do you think Ethan was the primary doctor? We saw him in a lab coat in Claire's flashback.

I`ve been thinking about that too Pen. I just mentioned something about it on OWA too LOL. That maybe when Charlie killed Ethan he took away the Other`s doctor too.

I wonder if we will ever learn more about Ethan's role with the Others. I would like too now, it seems that he was important to them, and thus a good kill for the good guys.

Maybe if we get that Other`s flash-back we will find out more. Ethan is confusing to me. When we see him in Othersville, trying to fix Juliet`s plumbing, he seems so different than the scary guy chasing Charlie.

Unless he has a twin??

When we see him in "Lost in Portland" he appears to be recruiting people for Mittelos Bioscience. I wonder if this means Ethan was also recruited like Juliet?

Lostpedia raises some good questions regarding Ethan:

Why would Ben send their surgeon on a potentially dangerous mission?
Did Ethan actually have enhanced strength, and if so what was its source?
Was Ethan The Others' version of Jack?

Did anyone catch where Nikki says to Paulo "maybe we should ask Ethan" or something to that effect, as if he was their good friend?

This confused me as I thought he was only "around" for a few days during the census. Do I have his timeline wrong? There seemed to be an established trust there between her and him, at the very least.
