Finally!! A great episode!

Although this didn't advance the mystery/ies that much, I loved that it was character-driven.  That is one of the things that drew a lot of us to the series in the beginning.  And it was character driven in a way that the recent Juliet and Jack FBs weren't.  I think this helped us to understand Hurley in a deeper way.  Juliet's ep told us why she was there, Jack's up told about his tattoos, but I don't feel either ep spoke to their characters personalities or motivation.

And of course we had the return of DANIELLE!  I called that 5 minutes in.

I loved it!!! Hurley getting all excited, Charlie's devilish grin returning when he decided to ride shotgun, Jin learning to speak English from Sawyer ...

Of course, don't get me wrong, I liked Juliet's episode too, but for different reasons.  This one just made Hurley seem so much more lovable than he already was.  ("Redneck...man!!")

I liked that the episode made me LOL a bunch of times.  It started off slow, almost like the writers lost their familiarity with the original Losties, but once the beer was found, it was all good.  I did notice also that the score was really a strong player in this epi, which it hadn't been as often of late.  Yay for the return of Vincent!

ETA; I think ignoring the voice overs on the previews is a good idea because it seems like they lead to unrealistic expectations of the episode

I agree on the score, WOC.  (If we were in the OWA forum I could post the "SHAMBAHLA" pic and it would totally fit, LOL...)

Art imitates life!

ITA about the score, although I thought Giacchino also did awesome work a couple eps ago when Kate was crying, when they finally left Hydra Island.

I also loved when Hurley's dad said "it's never too late for a fresh start."  It related directly to Kate and Sawyer's opening scenes.  ANd also to the final video montage, although lately I find that device really heavy-handed.  It's soooo General Hospital.

But really, this show is all about fresh starts.  When they crashed on the island, they were all strangers, everyone had the opportunity for a fresh start.  And yet they mostly are reverting to their bad habits and character flaws, few have actually made a fresh start.  Sun and Jin certainly have, and Claire to a certain extent, and Chollie got off heroin.  But Jack, Kate and Sawyer all remain haunted by their pasts or their past failings or whatever.  Locke has major issues, as does Desmond.  Eko never got past his past.  In a  way, Smokey used his past to kill him.

OK, on another subject, who was totally annoyed when Paolo pulled Nikki by the back of her pants or her beltloop or whatever?  KILL THEM NOW!

WOC, it had me LOLing a bunch too, which was great.

I loved the episode. I generally love any episode where we get plenty of Hurley, just cuz he's so real and just a chill, funny guy. Sometimes we need a little bit of a getaway from the dramatic, romantic, troublesome bunch and he is perfect for that.

And Charlie looks much better clean shaven, imo.

I think Hurley exhibits some great leadership qualities, much more than the clique that is always bossing everyone around.  Hurley understands group dynamincs and human nature - he created the golf course, he planned the big Dharma food fest.  And while the VW was all about him, he kept saying "we need some fun", which is true.  I just think he is a way better leader than Jack, but people don't take him seriously becasue Jack is a good looking doc.

Oh, and him talking to Libby? So sad and sweet. I just wanted to give him a big hug.

Feels like this season they are just getting their ideas from movies.  Tonights installment was Thelma and Louise.

posted this over in OWA:

There were only two parts that could have been better - one scene that should have been deleted and one modified - both involving Nikki & Paolo.

Scene to be deleted - who cares about where the Dharma oatmeal is?

Scene to be modified - imagine Nikki & Paolo walking hand in hand through a beautiful green valley - gazing into each others eyes, and carrying a box of Dharma Corn Flakes when suddenly out of nowhere coming speeding down a hill comes - (you know what) and wham - Nikki flies east, Paolo flies west and the Corn Flakes go straight up. All while the 8 Track continues to blare:

ETA: and nice Dharma map Sawyer found!

...and luv the skeletor comment.

...and Charlie was likeable once he got slapped up the side of his head - you go Hurley!!!!

I thought the point was that they could be running out of food and have to go back to mangoes?  Or search for another Dharma balloon food drop?

I loved this episode, too! It was fun, funny, and showed great insight into Hurley's character. No falling asleep in the middle for me last night.

I thought Hurley's scene talking to Libby was very sweet. And him slapping Charlie - go Hurley! Sawyer teaching Jin English was great, even though I'd seen it in the Lost Moments. And I was so happy to see Vincent back!

It was also good to see Danielle back, and smart of Kate to tell her about Alex.

Vincent, the modified scene you posted is hysterical! I would have loved that!

All in all, a very enjoyable watch!

light and funny, but poignant. When they showed the 8 track player kick on, I fully expected Geronimo Jackson to be playing

Wow, already a bunch of nice points. I really liked the eppy too. Nice to sit back, relax, take off my Sherlock Holmes cap and just enjoy the show.

Eppy should've been named "Tricia Tanaka is HAWT -and yeah, dead"

This is probably the funniest eppy I've seen. The Sawyer jabs ran thick and were hilarious. SNUFFY? LOL

That beer would've been absolutely nasty, probably wasn't even good to begin with... but I totally would've had 2 or 12 if I were there too, LOL.

I think (hope) that this eppy won back some of the non-fanatics, being that it went back to it's roots with char development. It was a very "human" episode, reminds me of season one.

Only thing I didn't like was the cramming-in of N & P facetime. *gag*

So is this the turning of the tide? No more curse, prayers getting answered, hope has sprung back to life... I am SO ready for the Losties to start kicking some ass and taking names.

Hey Gang.  Wow great epi last night.  Haven't laughed that hard in awhile.  Sawyer was in rare form.  We needed that after the Jack epi.  Lotta great stuff.  Roadmap, eight-track, BEER!!! Now all they have to do is find the boat fuel and they can ride the VW Bus all day.

It reminded me how the X-Files every once in a while would have a wacky episode. We all need to get a little light hearted now and then - and Hurley understands that.

He rocks!
