Great opening (got that eye in there), 5 minutes in I didn't even remember there was a summer hiatus, I was back into it that quick. I thought it was a show that answered a lot, yet created more questions ( in true LOST fashion ). And to top it off, we still don't know the fate of Locke, Eko, and the hatch. I was very impressed with the epi. ETA - btw, 2 words for Juliet - nice rack --Last edited by gardenboy on 2006-10-05 08:03:55 --

I thought it was a great season opener, so many new questions!! Kate seemed really afraid when they brought her to her cage, and her wrists were so messed up, I wonder what has happened to her already ! |

From Rara in bork: 03:00:37 [RaraFemina] For those that were here earlier wondering what Stephen King book they were reading at the book club meeting at Juliets house...it's Carrie. I just checked my tape and went frame by frame. Two different coveres for Carrie are shown. Just thought I would let you know!! |

This episode started S3 off and running with many new and exciting questions. I know some of us in Bork thought that the voice Jack heard over the intercom was his father's voice. I am very curious to learn more about Ben and his gang. Apparently there is an entire village of "others", staffed with a book club and all! |

Loved the episode! I agree, the voice did sound like Jack's dad. Only have a couple of minutes right now, I am soooooo busy at work today, but I had to pop in and say the episode was awesome! |

I agree it was awesome! The opening scenes were the best - a village not unlike Specter (sp?) from Big Fish, the Stephen King book (if it was Carrie - interesting - telekinesis??), and especially the plane crash from the others perspective. The way it was portrayed confirmed many of my theories about what is going on - Desmond fails to push the button which releases large electromagnetic pulse. Magnetism by itself cannot bring down an aircraft, but can disrupt the space-time continuum if powerful and focused enough. Note how the plane slowed down, the distortion in the sky and then how it actually pulled apart rather than exploded. Recall the virtual experiments about an astronaut travelling in a spacecraft into space and back at very high speeds while his twin brother remains on earth and ages much more rapidly. As the spacecraft accelerates toward the speed of light - the craft compresses in size to the point where at the speed of light it would be crushed. Look at the plane. As the space-time continuum is crossed, the plane transitions rapidly from earth time and motion into island time and motion. In those instants before the people and plane can be in island time, the plane is pulled longer and longer and cannot take the stress so literally pulls apart. It falls - but slowly compared to how it would fall in earth time/space. The slowness saves many people. It only appears to accelerate rapidly just before the actual crash into the island - but that is in island time. In earth time, it still crashes slowly, and perhaps some of the passengers have not adjusted their bodies and metabolism yet to island time - so to them it is still slow enough that they are not badly injured. A miracle - or explainable by science?

couple of questions that crossed my mind last night - Does Daniele know about the "village"? - why was "Downtown" by Petula Clark in a Talking Heads CD case?

Thanks to Rara-by-proxy for the book identification! I loved the premiere, too (I'm already rewatching). I am very anxious to see how Sayid, Jin and Sun will re-appear and to see the fate of those left behind. VM, I like your comparison to Specter, and it seems that in terms of time there may be a bit of "The Village" as well. |

I loved it... replayed the first 5 minutes four times LOL. TY RARA for identifying the book!!! I noticed a few things: There was a dove flying around when the island view panned out, a la Cholly's dream from last season. There seemed to be a pyramid-shaped mountaintop way off in the distance on the widest pan-out. We know the Others have communications to the outside world and the resources to find out anything about anyone. I think they invitro'd Kate. We all know the others luv's them some kiddies... kinda like the House of Representatives but not as creepy. Could the kid be a survivor of the plane crash taken from Ana's group? hmmm... Juliet: -owns a CD collection. CD's came along after DHARMA built their stations. -Crys at the song as if she's tired of being on the island. -Does not invite Ben to Book Nite at her place. Friction here I think. -Seemed quite ticked off at Ben after he closed the hatch on her. I think Juliet likes Jack, has disdain for Ben, is homesick as hell, and will eventually end up helping our Losties. WTF?! are the others clones of people long dead? 1. they steal kids. 2. Juliet says "it doesn't matter who we were but who we are now". 3. Walt says "they're not who they say they are". Maybe they're clones... who rebelled and killed their cloners... later, they find that their cloners altered their DNA to keep them from reproducing (a la Jurassic Park).... they find a potential "cure" to help them procreate, whether naturally or artificially, involving children (stem cells?) |
