Facts:

She is 30, very pretty, very smart, seems very motivated and eager to learn. Has previously worked for 3 attorneys so this will not be new to her in terms of workload. Understands how to use computers better than last secretary and said she doesn't have to be instructed twice on how to do something.

so - how long will she last?  


ETA: As of 5/21/07 - she is gone. Thread is now for my venting and continued frustration at not being secure with a secretary LOL

I think that all depends on how much Pen she gets exposed to, a lot of Pen = short work duration, a little of Pen = a longer work duration...so given what we know about the history of Pen and secrataries, Id say about 23 minutes, give or take.....just kidding Pen, dont hit!

I think she sounds perfect for you.

And perfect can be taken two ways:

1. She's perfect for you to fire.
2. She's perfect and will work out!

I voted Other. She sounds good, but no one is perfect. And the fact that you seem to think she's knowledgable may bode well for her... but if she turns out to have "oversold" herself you won't be wanting to cut her some slack.

I'm thinking this could go one of two ways:

1) She isn't as good as she made you think, and she'll be gone quite soon; or

2) She IS as good as she made you think, and she'll end up moving on, or going to law school, or getting pregnant, or something else, and she'll leave you secretary-less and sad.

Sorry, I'm going from my own experience here lately. LOL

I wish for you though option 3 - She's great, you love her, and she stays around for a long time.

I gave her a month, since you'll be busy moving and stuff, lol

Jeannie - your thoughts are IDENTICAL to mine in truth though - I fear she is TOO qualified for this by her interview and will in a year leave me, sad and secretariless yet again. Thank heavens for the next 6 weeks I'll be house-distracted, on the off chance she sucks.

did she give you any indication she wanted to go to law-school or something? I guess she wouldn`t have said that during her interview anyway

She's 30 and hawt.  She'll be one of the partners' assistants inside of a month

I think she will be o.k. to start off with.
She probably showed eagerness because she wanted to leave her old job.

Does she speak/understand English?
Does she know what you are asking from her?

DH - so far, yes. We'll see if she begins to talk Yiddish to me upon arrival
