This sort of touches on the Jack & the Ping Pong thread but expands more beyond the table (so to speak ) as I am not positing brainwashing here -but something else. A change of teams?

What's up with him?

He's acting weird. But why? What does he know that he is not sharing? What happened to him on the Hydra island or in the Others camp that has the fearless leader sharing quiet dinners with an "other." His tone even sounds off, for Jack.

ETA: BashJacking can continue in the character club thread of the same name

I agree that Jack has been a bit different after his stay with the Others.
I wouldn`t be surprised if Jack has cut a new deal with Ben, maybe something similar to Juliet`s (maybe Ben is worried one of them will sell him down the river, so he made deals with both of them for assurance without telling them about the other deal?).

I don`t believe what he said to Kate, that he had just been keeping his head down and waiting for his ride home. I think something else happened with him.
Or maybe he is just feeling guilty that he was ready to leave the rest of the Losties on craphole while he took a nice submarine ride home?

S1 and S2 Jack wouldn't leave them like Michael did - selling out to the Others. Remember how disgusted he was at Libby and AL's death by Michael for a "ride home?"

Now we have this Jack. He' ready to toss the ball with Tom, play doctor with Ben, and flirt with Juliet. Different guy.

He is either shrewd like Locke with a plan --- or has cut the biggest deal of all deals and is in this now for himself. He's not a true Lostie anymore.

I'd perscribe to a big deal theory in which he is betraying them for some reason or another...whether he has been convinced of the others' ideals or just wants to get the hell off the island. But while I could see that sort of twist being used, I'm not completely sure it will...

I still foresee Juliet betraying Jack and Jack being all upset and surprised, rather than joining in with her at Ben's whim. And I believe that they'll want to keep the Kate-Jack-Sawyer thing going as long as possible.

I don't see brainwashing being the case either...because first off, that one kid (forget his name) was being brainwashed with the television/movie thing and possibly soem serum for awhile and that didn't exactly work to perfection. Secondly it wouldn't make sense for him to be sent back unless there is something immensely big in the works.

I could see Jack still being pretty much the same guy despite all the little offness except one thing...Jack playing football with Tom...that was the thing that clearly showed something had to be up. I don't think Jack was just being polite.

I also thought his questioning of Sun was a bit strange, a bit beyond the caring doctor. Is Jack also on a mission from Ben?
Juliet said "I hate you" to Ben, and I suspect Ben also knows her true feelings - if he doesn`t trust her, maybe he gave jack a similar "assignment" as Juliet got?

I agree.
Something was going on. He appears (redshirt in tow LOL) suddenly with Sun, interrogates her, then leaves. For what? He clearly didn't tell Juliet -- something is so off with him.

This bothered me as well. He questions Sun, but doesn't tell her what he knows about pregnant women on the island? That doesn't make sense.

I agree, as a concerned friend and doctor you would think he would tell her what he knows.

And you'd continue helping the pregnant woman plant her garden. He dug for 30 seconds and left.

If he had divulged his knowledge I'd have said he is still normal Jack. But he appears to be heading in a new direction and I think other Losties are losing their faith in him as the leader.

And what was it Juliet wanted to tell Kate, but Jack didn`t want her to know yet?
He seemed very unconserned that the rest of the Losties doesn`t trust him anymore...

I think it was that the communications tower and such were down, that the phone wouldn't work because of the island's interference. That there was no way off of the island.

But I could be wrong.

But that is not a big secret, is it? They already kinda know that from S1, when Sayid was trying to get the radio working.

I know. i'm lame.
i can't think of anything else unless they have a plot against the Others which somehow would be relevant in the finding of the random Parachutist???

I was thinking since Juliet brought it up at that exact time, it does sound it could relate to their conversation with Kate - either about the parachutist, the cell-phone, rescue or the fact that no one trusts Jack?

to me, it seemed like they had a plan or something. I don't think it had anything to do with the satellite phone. Why would it be such a secret that the comms are down? There is something else there.

Juliette may of admitted to Jack that she is on a mission, but won't follow through. Jack on the other hand might not want to worry the rest of the Losties with such a heavy burden, such as their lives and freedom might be in danger. Why put them in a defensive posture when there is sun and sand and surf to enjoy?
In some ways he's just like Ben, keep your subjects in your power by keeping them ignorant.

Juliet What is that?
Richard Alpert That is orange juice...with a considerable amount of Dharma Calms Forte mixed in.
Juliet You want me to drink it?
