I know we`re already discussing the significance of "Adam and Eve" in various threads, so I figured we could use a place to keep the discussion in one place

They are skeletons found in the caves discovered by Jack in "White Rabbit". The bodies themselves were discovered by Jack in "House of the Rising Sun". Locke gave them the names Adam and Eve. On the bodies Jack found a small bag with one white and one black stone.

Per Lostpedia:

In an EW.com article, Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse answered the fan question, "What is the meaning or significance of the two skeletons that Jack and Kate found in the cave of season 1?"

CUSE: The answer to that question goes to the nature of the timeline of the island. We don't want to say too much about it, but there are a couple Easter eggs embedded in "Not in Portland", one of which is an anagram that actually sheds some light on the skeletons and hints at a larger mythological mystery that will start to unfold later in the season.

LINDELOF: There were certain things we knew from the very beginning. Independent of ever knowing when the end was going to be, we knew what it was going to be, and we wanted to start setting it up as early as season 1, or else people would think that we were making it up as we were going along. So the skeletons are the living -- or, I guess, slowly decomposing -- proof of that. When all is said and done, people are going to point to the skeletons and say, "That is proof that from the very beginning, they always knew that they were going to do this."

  • One of these anagrams could be Mittelos -- "Lost Time" or "Time Slot" -- and there could also be something embedded within the Room 23 video.
  • Two stones appear on a table in Desmond's flat in his flashback during "Flashes Before Your Eyes".

So what do you think is the meaning of Adam and Eve? Who are they really? How long have they been on the island? What is the meaning of the black and white stones?

Could the stones in Des' flat be a hint that somehow Penny gets to the island and that Adam and Eve are Des and Penny?

I'm not sure. I'll check 'caps and see if there's anything.

And I'd like it better than J & K, too.

Obviously I am rooting for Des and Penny so I like this theory too. I really think Adam and Eve are someone currently alive to us as viewers. I think that is the big mystery of Lost, and I believe the clue in the brainwashing video is a hint that time/space have something to do with those skeletons.

Could the stones in Des`appartment belong to Pen - and be some indication of a connection between Widmore and the island?

If the time-loop theory is wrong - could Adam and Eve have some connection either to the Black Rock or to the four toed statue?

I never noticed those rocks as Desmond's!!! That's freakin' cool!!! I like either theory, that Adam and Eve are Des and Pen, or that the rocks connect her back to the island. I do hope they come into play at some point. I don't think that is random coincidence.

Yeah. It seems too weird to have a table in shot with two stones unless it meant something.

I mean, how many people us tables just for TWO rocks? LOLOL.

The two "stones" in Des's apt. have actually been proven to be bottle caps to beer.

It is still a weird placement of a table, all the other furniture is in the background under plastic tarps. And here sits this table, right near the paint zone and with two "items" strategically placed in a line, equal distance from the table edge. It reeks of being a plot point.

Juliet What is that?
Richard Alpert That is orange juice...with a considerable amount of Dharma Calms Forte mixed in.

That's what I was thinking, Ralf. If I were to put a bottle cap down, and someone else did too, it's unlikely they'd be so centered and placed like that.

I still think at least one of the skeletons is Jack, mainly because he was the one that took the stones and pocketed them without saying anything to anyone. That reeks of a time loop, where later we will go - OMG - Jack had the stones when he died - now I remember.

Anyone else and the stones start to lose their impact I believe.

VM, I won't admit to know anything about the time loop stuff, but is it possible we're seeing some sort of shift or something in that loop?

Like, seeing the stones in Des and Penny's flat (I can't see them being beer caps, so I am sticking to stones LOL) was a clue, and then remembering Jack taking them in S1... kinda like a "he shouldn't have those", so something has gone wrong in the loop?

if they are bottle caps, then where are the bottles. I know when I open a beer if I set the cap on a table it is the same table that I set my beer on. My vote is they are stones, why they are there? I have no friggin' idea.
