I want to think that Alex is Danielle's daughter, and just as she told Sayid, Alex was taken as a baby. Now here is what I cannot seem to reconcile, if Alex was raised by Ben, as a "father" what did he tell his "daughter" about her mother? But regardless of what he told her, I don't see how Alex can roam all over the Losties island and not ever run into Danielle or vice versa. If you remember the quote a couple epi's back when it was anounced she was on the Hydra island - "how did she get over here?", and with the hidden boat and hidey holes, indicates to me that she is not allowed on Hydra island. So with spending so much time on Losties island and as much as Danielle gets around on the island, HOW COULD THEY NOT HAVE EVER MET UP? in typical LOST fashion, too many questions --Last edited by gardenboy on 2007-02-09 13:13:23 --

I agree it seems strange. But Danielle told Sayid that she had never seen any of the others. Just heard the whispers. I think Danielle, in her slightly paranoid way, hides a lot. So it could be that she's never been around when Alex has been. Plus she seemed amazed when Sayid told her that her distress call had been playing for 16 years. In her mind, Alex may still be a baby - or at least was until Sayid clued her in on the time passage. So even if she ever glimpsed Alex from a distance, she might not have made the connection. Alex seems way too smart to get caught in one of Danielle's traps, and it's hard to see someone who is paranoid and hiding. So maybe she just never ran into Danielle either. Or maybe she has seen her from a distance, but doesn't know who she is. We have no clue what story Ben has told her about her mother. |

I understand what you're saying Jeannie, but the fact is, she caught Sayid, after what, a week of him being there. Hurley was able to find her, she went with Kate and Claire to the medical clinic, and she caught Ben. The point is she gets around a lot and if Alex has spent most of her time on this island, I just don't see how they couldn't have crossed paths

I would subscribe to the theory that Danielle is so paranoid and her mind has been affected so much that she may not recognize a 16 year old girl as Alex. She could still see her as a baby. It is also weird that she says she never saw the Others, but I suppose it is possible.

Yeah, what Vincent said. Daniell is off of her rocker IMHO, she may have seen Alex, but saw right through her. Or.....she knows more than we think. Remember, she did trap Ben, the "daddy." |

I'm not so certain that the Others do or even can roam freely all over the big island. Kelvin was Dharma, the Others never were. They are two distinct groups and may not like each other. Cerberus may be a Dharma creation and thus may have a certain desire to pull them underground or play basketball with them. That line in the jungle that "by the way my name is Tom" drew may be a line that they don't cross because they can't or it is dangerous for them. Danielle may be on the Dharma side of the line so wouldn't normally see the Others. And so far nobody but a few of the Losties seem to know about Patch, so what group does he belong to?

But if the Others can`t roam freely, wouldn`t that have made it a problem for Ethan or Goodwin to infiltrate the losties? Or for them to run after Claire when she escaped from the medical hatch? |

The point gets brought up of Alex roaming the island, how can she not have run into her mother, etc. But really, how do we know her rebellion has been to the extent it is now for all her life? Remember, she's only 16. Right around the age where the questioning and rebellion starts in teens. What with the crash of 815, the Others became preoccupied with other things than watching over a teen girl. They had Ethan and Goodwin with the Fusies and the Tailies, gathering names and learning about each one, Goodwin's death, kidnapping/drugging Claire, preparing for her surgery, her escaping, Ethan's death, Ben's capture, studying/testing Walt, getting Michael to help them, etc. They've had a lot on their plate, and while maybe Alex has thoughts of rebellion, she may not have acted on them until recently. Yes, she had a hidey whole in the ground, she has a boat... But Danny wondered how she even got to the other island, so I guess this is the first time she's done it as obviously as she has. This leads me to believe it's not something she does often. She has her mother's ingenuity, it wouldn't have taken her and Karl long to make a boat, and for all we know, she didn't even make it. It could have been one of their "props" from the fake village that she took without them noticing. Maybe Alex had never been to the other island before. Maybe she started getting more curious about things when everyone started disappearing all day and so she set out to find out what was going on. Aaaanyways! LOL. To just sum my post up: I'm just not convinced Alex's roaming has been going on for a long time.

Good point about the boat (or boats) belonging to the eight-toed people. Carl also seems a bit too young to have been recruited for part of the team. He also might be a native of the island, 2nd cousin once removed from Ben. Maybe we should be looking at Carl's and Ben's feet and counting toes.

I was re-watching last night`s episode, and I wondered if creepy Isabel could perhaps have been Alex`s adoptive mother or something? When Isabel has gotten Jack out of the cage for questioning and is leading him to the room where Juliet is, they meet Alex in the hallway. And Isabel says "why don`t you check on your father sweetheart, I know he`d appreciate it". I don`t know, it was just her tone of voice and the way they looked at eachother that made me think about it. |

I took Isabel's tone as "why don't you get out of the way little girl and let us big folks do our important stuff." It seemed very condescending to me. I did not care for Isabel one bit.

So, if Alex was stolen from Danielle 16 years ago (1988), who stole her? The Dharma Initiative or the Hostiles/natives? |
| Penelope Posts : 7234 |
16 years ago would be pre-purge too....meaning Danielle and Baby Alex were around before it. At least if you buy Mikhail's story he had only been on the island 10-11 years....I'm guessing the natives - -and then Ben "took the father role" with her. |

How in the world did Danielle and her team go unnoticed by Dharma which was still fully functional when she would have arrived?

If this timeline is true, it is sounding more and more to me like there is something fishy about Danielle`s story. Like ILE brought up, how didn`t Dharma notice a research vessel arriving at the island? I`m starting to believe that Danielle and her team of scientists (also very convenient considering Dharma`s role on the island) was perhaps a part of Dharma. Maybe Danielle is blocking out this memory, or maybe she doesn`t want to give them this information? |

Especially the fact that she was at the radio tower - you'd think Dharma would be watching that closely.

Yes, exactly ILE. And the sickness she speaks off, could it have been the purge - the gas canisters? Maybe there is a part of that we didn`t see? It was administered in open air, could it have driven people insane if they didn`t inhale enough to kill them? Just thinking out loud here LOL |
