What are those idiots doing over there that necessitates rock busting?

Good question.

Based on what Kate told Jack, either the operation is something big or Kate is just kind of dumb...she said something like we're breaking up rocks, it's something big.

When you are on a big rock in the middle of the ocean, you must remove outcroppings if you want to build a road, a runway, or even a foundation of a building.  There wouldn't be that much top soil available to level out what you would need, so you bust up rocks to make it flat.

Oh, so its probably for some sort of transportation remedy since they are stuck on that island? Interesting.

I'm going to guess that on an island twice the size of Alcatraz a runway is probably not a good choice. I don't think a road is either. I would go for a helicopter landing pad or the foundation for something though.

It could also be the putting green for the first hole...if the Losties can have a golf course then the hostiles need one too.

Seriously, I bet that what they are building or planning is going to shock us - being that this is Lost and all.

I`m hoping they might come back to this, as it was hinted to in the conversation with Karl this week, when he answered "projects".

Well, fineally Sawyer started asking some questions too, and Juliet said it was for an "airstrip" (loved the "for the aliens" reply ).

My biggest problem with this is Ben`s seeming obsession with keeping people both on and off the island, which doesn`t really rhyme with wanting to build an airstrip...

Do you think that is really what they were building?
And if not, who was lying? Ben to the rest of the Others (shouldn`t they catch on though when they saw the blue-prints) or Juliet to Sawyer?

after saying it was an airstrip, she did say she didn't know what is was, that Ben didn't tell her everything

I forgot that part

But that doesn`t seem too believable either - I mean, they just start building things without knowing what it is? And didn`t they have the blueprints?

I still find it strange about the whole group that was rock breaking. We the rest of them Others also? Did they submit to chain gang labor just because Bent old them to? It seemed like the whole group was under armed guard, not just Kate and Sawyer, if so, where are the rest of the chain gang being kept while Ben and company are on their little nature retreat?

They appeared to be Others Ralf, from what I recall.

Unless that old rock-breaking was another little "act" by Ben & Co, like the beard on Tom was, for Kate & Sawyer's sake?
