What are your theories about the whispers that clearly ARE saying something in the jungle? I really like the theory that these sounds are actuall telepathic echoes. And what is up with the German translations?

I think that the Whispers are one of the least discussed mysteries on the island, but one of the most intriguing. They aren't discussed much because well, we cannot hear them without some sound enhancement which takes a long time to produce on the 'net. But they may have some relevant clues to what is going on with the Losties, and with the island.

The Audio from "The Other 48 Days" is very disturbing. Who is the voice that wants to see Shannon so badly? Boone? Could they become the whispers after death on the island?

If you are interested in the whispers, you should check out the thread about it on The Fuselage...it's amazing. They have people with audio equipment that separate each channel in the surround sound, and slow it down, or speed it up. They put a LOT of work into it.
What they find is both creepy and cool. I get goosebumps when I listen to some of the things they find!!

I definitely agree on the goosebumps - it`s really kinda creepy. And I also agree about the Fuselage, Rara - they have a very interesting thread about the whispers there.

I`ve read speculations where the German whispers are being taken into account for the "ghost-theory" - apparently one of the first people out of the tail-section surwivers to be snatched by The Others was a German.

In "The Other 48 days" Nathan says:
"Hey. Look. 3 of the people are missing... the blond guy, the curly-haired guy, and the German who was helping us with the injured. "

But I don`t think we ever got 100% proof the German was really dead, did we?

It was nice to hear the whispers again.  It's been awhile.  I didn't even notice at first, Jade pointed it out to me. LOL

Actually the Whispers were around in some earlier episodes this season but very very obscure. The official thread for them in the Fuselage has some of the S3 transcrïpt findings. I'm anxious to hear these ones though!!

I was reading the Official Whispers Thread at the Fuselage. The transcrïpts from the audio whispers in the jungle mentions someone named "Gasey."

Apparently, this is the name of a purge victim per Dark Ufo. The speculation now is that the whispers are connected to the purge victims somehow. Check out the thread:

But above, per lostpedia (I know, not necessarilly 100% credible, but they took them from penyours and rvt, didn't they?) -- anyways LOL, they say Frank Duckett (the shrimp man) was in the whispers, so it can't be all purge victims.

I agree ILE-- I think they are just part of it. I don't believe its 100% dharma purge people. I don't remember that shrimp man LOL

Could they be dead people from whoever is hearing them's past? I mean, Frank was apparently in the whispers when Sawyer heard them.

In the S2 finale, "Elizabeth" was said multiple times... possibly Libby's dead husband, reaching out to Hurley/reacting to Hurley since he was the one close to Libby?

From when Sawyer hears them near the beach. It almost seems as if they aren't aware they don't exsist? Or whatever/whoever is behind the whispers DOES exsist in some manner and we've yet to see how.

yes, the "what if he shoots us" and "did he see us" seems to indicate they think they can be seen and can be shot.

Not really sure how to phrase this. Treading dangerously close to the purgatory... What if the whispers are dead people of the island and they are in Limbo.  Kind of like The Sixth Sense.  They are dead, but unaware of it.

Just to make sure I'm understood.  I don't want to get flogged for supporting the ridiculous purgatory idea. LOL. The island inhabitants are not in purgatory. The people such as Boone are in Limbo.

Another iffy idea.  The whispers are people from an alternate plane of existance.  Alternate reality, but not quite.

I like that they are dead people connected to everyone. Makes the most sense with the names we have heard.

ILE - I remember the old scrïpts had lines in there which made you think the Whispers believed themselves to be alive. That led to alot of parallel universe theories. Certainly they appear to lack an awareness of their relationship in time and space to what they are observing.

So yeah AJ - I buy into your theory a bit that there is an overlap of realities causing the confusion. I don't think it could be purgatory though for them -- because we have non-island people in the whispers. I'd be willing to buy purgatory for the whispers people a lot more than the Losties though  ;)

eta: although a tidier explanation could be this is a bit of EVP (ever seen the movie White Noise?) Electronic Voice Phenomenen.
This is when we hear the dead through our technology. I just thought I'd throw that out there as its been discussed a lot in the Official Whispers Thread at the Fuselage.
