Ok... There has been speculation of Charlie being him.  recently something occcured to me.  Why is Desmond only fixated on Charlie's death.  Is it because he saw Charlie in his little trip to the past.  Or did he see N&P's death too, but didn't care?
Well my theory is that Charlie is Him.  And Charlie will die, but not literally.  I think Charlie will die and Jacob will be born.  This of course based on the fact that the Losties are in a time loop.  This could be why Desmond is so determined to keep Charlie alive.  He doesn't want Charlie to become the evil Jacob.  I noticed Desmond gave Nikki a strange look when she was talking to Sawyer in Expose.  The look seemed to indicate he knew something.  This is what has lead me to believe that Charlie is to be born again into Jacob.  Otherwise why is Desmond so concerned about stopping Charlie's death. I mean if Charlie dies he can move in on Claire, LOL. I know my theory has some holes in it, but I guess that's why it is called a theory.

Why do they talk about Jacob as if he's alive, if Charlie is only to be reborn as him, then?

When I say reborn, I don't mean as a baby.  I mean like born again Christian.  The artist formally known as Charlie is now Jacob.  You know like how Prince keeps changing his name and symbols.

Alrighty. But then how can he not be aware of this? They mentioned a list Jacob had written... if Charlie is yet to 'realize' he is Jacob, how did he make a list?

Don't they say Jacob is a magnificent man or something like that?  They could have meant he "was" a magnificent man, but I just got the impression that he was already there or they know him or something.

Another question - if Charlie is not to really die, and just in a sense of his "self" dying and becoming Jacob, why did Ethan try to kill him?

I never said the theory was sound.  It's just a theory.  As for Ethan trying to kill him, maybe Ethan is unaware of Jacob's prior persona.  Or maybe it was a ruse to trick the Losties.  Ethan knew that Charlie would not die from the hanging.  This is Lost folks.  Nothing makes sense and anything is possible.

It's nothing personal. We're just asking questions for discussion. But I think basing a theory on "anything is possible" is a bit.. weak. I mean, if we just go by "anything is possible", then I can make a thread saying Him is Barney.

AJ - Anything using a time loop theory is going to loose your audience real fast. The problem with it is that there are too many overlapping lives to make it work.
Actually...maybe Hurley's friend Dave is really Him.

I am not a big fan of the time loop/going to the past theory I have to admit...

not a fan of alternate realities either but I still won't rule out Charlie as HIM. I have Christian first of course, but Charlie is my next suspect -- I like the part of Desmond being concerned about Charlie - but I wonder if he would see he is "HIM" if he would bother? (I'm going away from the reborn thing and just assuming he is HIM and already knows it.

And why would Charlie fight so hard to get Claire back - if he really was HIM, wouldn`t Charlie instead do everything in his power the others in fact got Claire/Aaron?

I'm not sure Ethan tried to kill Charlie though in my "HIM" = charlie theory. It could have been staged. I know that seems silly since he could have died staging it but maybe they were waiting for Jack to come that way and strung him up.

As for the Claire stuff that stumps me. Unless HIM/Charlie got trumped by Charlie/Charlie's feeling for Claire. Maybe he's on the outs with the rest. I'm just playing devil's advocate here - you all know I think that it is Christian  ;)

I think the theory goes (not that I agree with the theory) that Charlie doesn't himself know, nor may anyone else know, that Charlie is Him. It happens to Charlie (from his viewpoint) later on, and to Ethan and crew it happened (from their viewpoint) before and Him is a bit older and less hobbit looking.

See why I don't like time loops?
