Posted 08/07/2006 01:02:39 PM | | OK everybody. These are some theories I have thought up myself towards the middle of last year, or gathered from what I know. A couple of them are known, some of them are totally outlandish, and others are unlikely but they can make sense. Maybe you will find one you like, but more likely, you will find something that should make you laugh. They are numbered for order only. Here goes...
1. Dragon Theory- The island is actually just one massive sleeping dragon that they have crash landed upon. Hence the black smoke. Also, all the odd island noises are probably snoring or stomach grumblings. Could lead into a terrible made for TV movie.
2. Peanuts Theory- The Others are actually the characters from Charles Schultz's Peanuts and will ultimately result in that traditional dancing.
3. Highway Theory- They are in that woodsy area off to the side of the highway. All the noises are just cars passing by or wind through the trees. They probably can't find their way out due to carbon monoxide induced hallucinations.
4. Drug Theory- Various scenarios by which the characters are just on drugs. Hence, Eko and Charlie's ties into drugs, etc.
5. Hurley Theory- They are all in Hurley's head because he could be quite insane. Could be all his subconciouses are fighting control as was the case in the movie Identity.
6. Disproved Theory- They are in some sort of Limbo, Purgatory, Hell, or otherwise being judged by some higher authority. Look elsewhere for more in-depth looks, the religious connotations are rather obvious. See separate thread.
7. Presented Theory- Based on what is given on the show, they are on some sort of test island, etc.
8. Anonymous Friend #1's Theory 1- The plane is actually symbolism for a diving/swim team a hundred years ago that ended up at the island and were forced to build what is now Disneyworld by one Walt Disney.
9. Shire Theory- The island is actually The Shire from LOTR. The hatches are their wee little houses. Charlie is actually a Hobbit on his way home but plays along because Claire reminds him of Eowyn. Magic is what makes all the wierd stuff happen.
10. Flu Theory- The only real part of the island is the rampant disease which is actually making them all hallucinate.
11. Irish Theory- They have actually landed on the island of Ireland and are possibly drunk. Just like Ireland, there are not that many people around and the ones that are, are known for inhospitality. There are cliffs all about, and The Others could very well even be leprechauns. The black smoke probably comes from some old pub. And did you ever wonder why there are no snakes on the supposed tropical island? Saint Patrick takes care of that. And don't take offense, I am Irish, its a joke.
12. The Other Theory- The main characters are actually The Others and The Others are random people who end up on the island in an odd twist of events similar to that in the movie The Others.
13. Hollywood Theory- The airplane they had been travelling could go into space like the ones in the Airplane movies and when they return to Earth, it has been ravaged by mankind, leaving very few people, similar to Planet of the Apes movies.
14. Anonymous Friend #2's Theory- They are just dreaming on the plane. They have incorporated people on the plane and especially ones they had seen once or twice before the trip.
15. Real Theory- The characters are all actually actors and actresses and the whole thing actually occurs on a Hawaiian island. Ana Lucia had to be killed because of court, characters had t be cut, etc.
16. Missing Theory- The ultimate villain of the island is a singular entity of LOST souls...those from the Bermuda Triangle, Whitey Bulger, Kurt Cobain, Elvis Presley, Carmen Sandiego, Waldo, etc.
17. California Theory- They have actually made it to California which is now an island due to a major earthquake along the San Andreas fault and with continental shifting due to tectonic pate movement. The polar bear and warthogs are from the San Diego Zoo, the black smoke is from cars/cities/factories. Many people died during the earthquake. The area is nice with beaches, redwood forestry, etc.
18. (M)Ad Theory- The whole thing is just one big advertisement for MAD TV. It just gets progressively more wierd, stupid, and not entertaining until the last episode in which the theme song will roll and all fans will be disappointed.
19. De Vito Theory- Danny De Vito will be cast as the ultimate villain of the island which ties into the next theory, as he would still be the main villain. Something about him would just fit
20. My Personal Favorite Theory- The whole thing is some sort of homage, or symbolism for the Looney Tunes. Imperfect but by far my favorite. All the characters are tie-ins to Looney Tunes as seen in the following:
-Jack is Bugs Bunny, a smart leader of the group, entertaining from time to time, etc.
-John Locke is Elmer Fudd, opposition to Bugs Bunny/Jack, talks kind of wierd, bald, old, hunter.
-Sawyer is Yosemite Sam, opposition to Bugs Bunny/Jack, Texan cowboy type, facial hair, gets and wields guns.
-Hurley is Porky Pig, fat and kind of a loser, but nonetheless respected amongst his peers
-Libby is Petunia Pig- a character of lesser importance, Hurley/Porky Pig's love interest but seemingly less of a loser/nutcase
-Eko is Tasmanian Devil, a force to be reckoned with, not entirely understood
-Henry Gale is Marvin the Martian- comes from another planet/place to bring the destruction of the other characters by entering their ranks, ultimately fails
-Rousseau is Speedy Gonzales, helps the others when necessary/convenient, quick to escape, speaks in foreign tone
-Jin is Henery Hawk, the more violent of the pair, Sun is Foghorn Leghorn, the more talkative of the pair though sometimes difficult to understand, lovebirds
-Michael is Daffy Duck, dark colored, clearly insane yet still with self-control, alignment is questionable
-Walt is Plucky Duck/Duck Dodgers- similar characters to Daffy, one is a child, while the other connotates a more direct similarity to Daffy but with a more fantastic/comic based style. Potentially more dangerous than father.
-Desmond is Roadrunner- runner, ran away, fast, intuitive nature about other people and dangerous situations
-Arzt is Wile E. Coyote- expertise in dynamite and explosives, but ironically hurt by his own devices, seeks to fit in but has poor nature
-Rose is Rocky and Bernard is Mugsy, instead of a pair with contrast in size, it is in gender and race, and instead of significantly dangerous, they are more pacifistic
-Charlie is Pepe Le Pew, he's a stinking little guy with a foreign accent, obsessed with a woman and basically a stalker
-Claire is Penelope Pussycat, reluctant object of Charlie/Pepe Le Pew's affection, barely holds her own as a character
-Kate is Lola Bunny, an independent female type, much like Jack/Bugs Bunny, but fond of other male characters as well
-Sayid is Michigan J. Frog, he is a pimp, proud nationalist type, and a untapped potential leader for the characters
-Shannon is Tweety Bird, innocent, kind of loud and anooying little chirper, dots about the island, physically not threatening, killed by Ana Lucia/Sylvester the Cat
-Ana Lucia is Sylvester the Cat- unique voice on island, kills Shannon/Tweety Bird, unintentionally hurting friends, loss of baby(?)
-Boone is Granny, makes a good couple withe John Locke/Elmer Fudd, plane fall is symbolic of old age, intuitive/detective nature, generally good, protective of Shannon/Tweety Bird
